Ask Dr. Health
Dear Dr. Health,
I was told that it's good to stay hydrated with 8 glasses of water a day. This seems hard to keep up with and leaves me somewhat bloated. Do you have any recommendations of an easier approach to stay hydrated?
Sincerely,
Dear Bloated, You are correct and you are also wrong. It is true that you must drink 8 glasses of liquid a day. Where you are wrong is your assumption that this liquid must be water. In fact, the liquid can be any clear liquid, including water, seltzer water, Gatorade Ice, or my personal recommendation, vodka. Vodka will not only keep you hydrated, but will also improve your confidence, and the attractiveness of others.
Happy Hydration!
Dear Dr. Health, My husband and I like to go out on the weekends. We tend to drink quite a bit. The problem is that when it is time to go home, neither of us is in any condition to drive. Do you think we should cut down on our alcohol consumption?
Sincerely,
Dear Soused, In regards to driving drunk, this is a very important issue. The issue is, there's no other way to get home so you must learn the techniques behind driving drunk. There are two schools of thought on this: 1) Set aside a week, where you will learn to drive drunk. On Monday, have one drink before going to work. Each day, increase by one or two drinks, so that by the end of the week, you feel completely comfortable driving with 10 or so drinks in you. 2) If the organized approach makes you nervous, I'd recommend drinking a lot more than usual next time you go out, so you're confident enough to get in the car.... Whichever approach you take, just remember, your reaction times are much slower when you're drunk, so turn the steering wheel quickly and violently. Same with the brakes.
Happy Motoring,
