Banana Stickers Basis of Sexual Harassment LawsuitButtsville, NJ William Tarrel, a sales engineer and company practical joker for a local property management firm,
found himself enjoying the use of stickers as humor around the office. His most favorite
came from a roll of banana stickers and after days of sticking them all over the office, not to
mention sticking them on other employees, the rest of the company was fed up.
The female employees found the joke to be lewd and unacceptable. "It's one thing when a man compliments how I look in the workplace", said Susan Whitney, but when William put that banana sticker on the crotch of his pants, I had to tell someone." Banana stickers in combination with the phrase: "This Banana is ripe and ready to eat" was the basis of a sexual harassment lawsuit. ...but it didn't end with the banana stickers. Tarrel discovered a roll of "Special Deal" and "Ripe" stickers he could use more creatively, sticking them on Womens' chest and rear end areas. In an escalating battle, Whitney found a roll of "Rejected" stickers which she proceeded to place on Tarrel's monitor. It wasn't until his desk was covered with "99 cents" stickers that he new he was striking a nerve with his co-workers.
The problem resolved itself when Tarrel arrived at his desk with a box labeled "Handle With
Care" was waiting for him along with a "Freshly Canned" sticker that was to be gently placed
on his forehead.
